What are Layers and Broilers in a Poultry Farm?

  Broilers are chickens, both male and female, raised specifically for meat production. They are typically slaughtered at about 5 to 8 months of age, depending on their weight. Layers are hens, or pullets , raised primarily for egg production. They begin laying eggs at around 16 weeks of age and continue to do so for about 18 to 24 months. After this period, they are often used for stewing meat. Do Hens Lay Unfertilized Eggs? Yes, most eggs produced for consumption are unfertilized . Eggs sold in grocery stores typically come from hens that are not mated with a rooster. In backyard flocks, however, a rooster may be present. If the rooster mates with the hens, the eggs can be fertilized.
